About The Department

The Kamrup College, Chamata was established in 1966. It is rural based institution of co- education in the lower part of the state of Assam. Kamrup College has been imparting general education to the students of this locality. Philosophy as a subject of study was incorporated in the curriculum of Kamrup College in the very year of its establishment in 1966.

Vision
The vision of the Philosophy Department is to increase students strength and to improve the overall functioning of the department. at the department of the Philosophy, we try to uphold the mental and spiritual upliftment of our students community. Our vision is to create a society enlightened with great philosophers of the world. Our vision is also to prepare the ground of further higher education. In all, we are committed to the cause of a better society.
Mission
  • Our Mission will be to develop moral attitudes among young generation and also make them aware of moral and spiritual development and exerts an influence upon them to raise their life to a higher level.
  • To help the students in developing moral and spiritual attitudes. Because without containing moral character, a student is no more a good citizen.
  • To encourage the students to think and act positively, logically and scientifically.

Higher Secondary Course.
General Course at Degree level.
Major Course at Degree level.

    The Philosophical Society
   

The department has an organization comprising of the teachers and students under the name of ‘ Philosophical Society’. The society was to increase the interest of students and to help them understood the current and other important issues. Through the Society, the department arranges seminars, Field trips, etc.,and published departmental magazine’ Prajna’.

    The Result Of The Department
   

The results of the department of philosophy is satisfactory. The students of this department show their good performances every years. The past  seven years, more than12 students got 1st class in degree final examinations conducted by Gauhati University.

    Staff Position
   

In the beginning, the department was running only by one Lecturer. Dr. Narayan Chandra Baishya was the first lecturer of the department of Philosophy. In 1975, another lecturer, named Hiten Sarma, joined in this department.  Both are retired. The present staff of the department is as follows:
